Bolder Boulder 2010

This morning Clifton ran in the Bolder Boulder, a 10K run with approximately 50,000 runners. Every year it competes with a race in Atlanta to be the biggest race in the country. Clifton had a great run (I'm allowed to brag as long as it's not about me, right?). With a time of 36:04, he placed 131st out of 22,554 men. Of 36 year old men, he was 2nd of 401 (only six seconds behind number one). And managed to cut a couple minutes off of last year's time. Not too shabby. In the video you can see him in the bright green shirt.

One of the really moving things (for me at least) is watching a group of marines run the 10K in full gear (including heavy boots) in formation, carrying a US flag and a marine corps flag. When they get within 50 yards of the finish the flags are set aside and they drop and do push-ups, then complete the race, together, in formation. The entire stadium rises to standing and goes wild with cheers.

I am thankful for the men and women who have and who continue to serve this country in the military.
