This weekend we went to Silverton, Colorado for Clifton to run a marathon with his cousin Christian. To make life more interesting, Clifton broke his thumb on Tuesday and had surgery to repair a ligament on Friday. He thought we should at least go and try.
The race started at 10K feet and involved running up a mountain to 13.1K feet and down again. That's the half marathon, so do that twice and you've just completed the marathon. The last half a mile to the summit is scrambling over boulders using your hands to climb. It took him three hours longer than the last marathon he ran.
For point of reference, 14 people were crazy enough to register (150 ran the half marathon). 11 started the marathon. 7 finished the marathon. Clifton finished first for men and Christian finished second. I am amazed with these men.
(And even moreso with the woman who beat them both by an hour. Seriously.)
Naomi ran the last 15 yards with Clifton and when she crossed the finish line proudly declared, "I did it!" Very cute.

Clifton actually looks a little tired here. Maybe he is human. Maybe.
