Late September

22 years ago I met these girls as we all showed up on 2nd Noordewier for our first year at Calvin. This fall we got back together in Grand Rapids to catch up.

So much has happened in those 22 years, good and bad in our lives. We don't see each other as often as we'd like, but our girls' weekends still feel like putting on your favorite jeans.

My brother Chris and his family moved from MN to MI this summer so Chris could start teaching at Calvin. So thankful for the chance to see these guys, their new home, and their new life.

Birthday eve treat!

Clifton and I took Friday off to spend my 40th birthday together. We sent the two older kids to school, dropped Sarah off with a babysitter, and went for a long hike followed by lunch in Boulder.

And then that night, because my friends are awesome, they humored me by dressing up from the 80s for my birthday for a Billy Ocean/Whitney Houston themed party. Because back in the day, those were easily my favorite artists. I still stand by them. Right? Who's with me?

Granted, Whitney's hair always looked better than mine.

80s well done by 3 out of 4 Fieglands.

The Gibsons rocking the 80s garb. That's little LL Cool J.

And Catie's outfit deserves a closer look because she's not only Whitney Houston. She's Whitney Houston singing at the Superbowl in 1991.

Nailed it.

Steve takes a more literal interpretation. This pic doesn't capture the entire costume. It was well done. And Suzi creeps out Atticus with her mask.

Pete and Jen making their entrance.

Jen also pulling off a very specific Whitney.

The Whitneys.

Here's to the next 40 years.

Thankful for friends who do life with us so well.
