May 2021

Sarah played in the boys' league because she wanted to stick with her co-ed team that had aged into a boys' league. What she lacks in talent she makes up for in grit.

I'm not entirely sure what happened here... It's what happens when clean laundry sits on the sofa all day without everyone putting theirs away. So maybe you throw a pair of underwear at a kid and ask them to put it away. And next thing you know there's an all out underwear war. No mercy.

Middle school dances, we are so ready for you.

Even sleeping does not mean you are safe from Sarah's snuggles.

Mother's Day breakfast in bed. We can't agree on cream cheese or nutella frosting so a little something for everyone. (Cream cheese. Obviously.)

Me and the girls that make me a mom.

We spent Mother's Day at a soccer game an hour away in 40 degree rain so that was great.

But Coach gave each player a rose to give to their mom so that pretty much made it all worth it. ;)

Pretty much the moment this got approved, Naomi went and got her first COVID shot.

She went with Amelia and they got these stuffed pigs to remember the day because everything is better with a best friend and a lovey.

She (and her friend Ella) also got inducted into National Junior Honor Society this month.

Grateful for warmer days of soccer and getting some wins under their belts.

Meanwhile, on the other side of town Sarah was doing her spring recital for ballet.

It was wonderful to be on stage again (masked and with a spaced out audience).

Naomi with Sarah between recitals.

Heading back for part 2.

Naomi with her ballet bestie Lucy waiting to go on stage.

And together for their ballet piece.

And for modern.

Post-season tournament. I was so proud of these girls. They were put in the highest division in the tournament -- during the season they play at the third (bottom) tier of the highest division. So their tournament games were against teams that are some of the best in the state (or New Mexico in this case) *and* three players were quarantined for COVID exposure, so they played without any subs. And they gave it all. They didn't win (though they did tie one game), but they gave those teams a run for their money. Even with the losses it was a highlight of their season.

Maybe in part because we all stayed down in Denver together at a hotel and had the best time with the girls and their parents.

And maybe because at the end of four games, you deserve a kona ice.

There was an owl stuck in one of the soccer nets -- I've never seen one so close, though I kept my distance to not stress it out. It was beautiful.

Sarah's end of season soccer party.

Annika all ready to go to her fifth grade continuation ceremony.

It was a virtual ceremony due to COVID, so here I am watching the livestream from work.

Annika got to give a continuation speech to her class. She has so much heart and was afraid she would cry. And boy did she cry. (She obviously gets that from Clifton.) But she pushed through and finished that speech and it was the sweetest and bravest thing I've ever seen her do.

Here she is afterwards with her principal.

The very last day of this very crazy school year.

Naomi's not yet too cool to give me a wave goodbye as she walks away from the car.

Waiting for the bus for the last day.

Last days are always more emotional for me than first days.

Because this: Annika on her first day of preschool and last day of fifth grade.

With her wonderful teacher Mrs. Carr.

Her math teacher was Mr. Conn who really gets her because the top line of this award tells you what it's like living with Annika these days, especially if you are one of her sisters.

See you later, school!

And hello, Summer!

Our neighborhood pool is open again this summer, so we did our annual last day of school dip in the pool.

Annika jumping off the high dive at her end of soccer season party with her buddies.

And then cheering on the Rapids with them.

Such a great start to summer!
