August 2025

We pick up August still in TX where some kids got up early enough to go for runs

...and then immediately dove in the lukewarm lake to cool off!

Playing games trying to stay cool in the shade.

There's a reason this slap-someone-with-a-mouth-full-of-water-with-a-tortilla in the face game went viral.

One last sunset swim

We went through Amarillo on our drive back to Colorado. I so wish our kids had known Clifton's parents. I wish I had gotten to spend time with them too. I wish they could see what an amazing man and husband and father their son is.

We went to Palo Duro Canyon with Uncle Gary

It's the second largest canyon in the US.

We also got to watch the musical Texas, put on every summer in an amphitheater in the state park.

We missed Aunt Sara a whole bunch but were so grateful to spend time with Uncle Gary.

Last day of work for this girl!

Longmont High XC summer training -- Sarah trained with the high school team and was pushed hard!

August means fall soccer starting up again. Annika usually plays defensive midfield, but managed to get two goals this game!!

And look who was there to see it!!

Naomi's date day with Aunt Val was to a tea house.

The girls adore this time with Val.

August showed up with some gorgeous sunsets over Longs Peak. I have a problem. I cannot not take a picture when it is this amazing.

First day of school! Didn't get the usual pics this morning because this girl was leaving at 5am for Senior Sunrise. It's an event designed to make moms cry. They start the year watching the sunrise together as a senior class. And at the end of the year they have a Senior Sunset. I'm literally crying just thinking about it. Maybe check in on me lots in May.

Naomi with her besties at the sunrise.

Meanwhile Annika at home on the first morning.

Off to school with her school backpack (which you can't even see on her back), her soccer bag, her XC bag and her violin. This girl's got a busy fall ahead of her.

Sarah's setting some lofty goals.

She humored me after school. :)

The chalkboard must be shrinking...Also, that Little Mermaid backpack had wheels and could be pulled like carry-on luggage. She was so in love with that bag.

The days are long, but the years are short. Love this girl with my whole heart.

And the tearfest just kept going as our small group prayed over Amelia as we sent her off to college!!

These girls are like sisters.

Sarah and Annika knocked out most of their summer bucket list.

It took several days but did eventually get all three together for the start of school pic!

The 2025 Longmont High Cross Country team

This was the pre-season write up in the local paper

They start their season with a weekend in the mountains training at altitude.

And doing some fun hikes.

And some night runs...

They do their first race of the season at Winter Park -- Anni got 2nd overall (small race).

These are friends that we've had since before all these babies were born. We don't see each other often but it's always so fun to catch up!

Still working on art for the walls, but part of August was spent updating Sarah's room.

See, those summer sunsets again. This is on the drive to pick the kids up from soccer practice. I'll sign up every time.

Annika and her friends celebrating a birthday!

This is one of many pics I have showing how Annika can fall asleep anywhere. This is at Sarah's soccer game. She's supposed to be watching the game. Or doing homework. Or sleeping I guess.

Annika's pretty involved in Young Life -- they had a Color War one night. So fun!

Passed her test and ready to learn to drive next month when she turns 15!!

Another sleep pic. This one makes sense at least -- who wouldn't sleep on a sofa snuggling your dog??

Grandpa Lynn would be proud of another journalist in the family! Thanks for keeping the kids knowing about their ancestors. Wonderful pictures, as usual. Love, UJ
